Connect an AI app to Sval

Sval has no AI of its own. An AI app on your computer can use Sval to browse for you, once you turn on agent access, connect the app, and approve it.

You use Claude Code to fix a login bug, and you want it to open the site and check the fix itself while you watch.

  1. Open Settings › Agents.
  2. Under Agent access, turn on Let AI agents on this computer use Sval.
  3. Under Connect an AI app, find your app, then select Connect.
  4. Restart the app the way Sval says. For Claude Code, start a new session.

Sval adds itself to the app’s settings, and the app’s row says Connected.

The first time the app asks to use Sval, Sval shows Pair “Claude Code” with Sval? in the window you’re using.

  1. Check the details under the question: the app’s task, which app it is, the folder it started in, and when.
  2. Optional: check the box to change the kind of Workspace the app gets.
  3. Select Pair.

The app gets its own Workspace, in a window that opens behind yours.

  • Sval can connect Claude Code, Claude Desktop, the ChatGPT desktop app and Codex, Cursor, and Mistral Vibe. An app that isn’t installed says Not found on this computer.
  • You approve an app once. Every later session of it can use Sval, from any folder, without asking again.
  • Each session of the app gets a Workspace of its own. When you resume a conversation, the app can go back to the Workspace it used before, with its tabs.
  • The app asks for one of two kinds of Workspace. A shared Workspace uses your sign-ins on every site. An isolated Workspace starts signed out of every site. The box in the pairing alert lets you pick the other kind.
  • Pair turns on a moment after the alert comes to the front, so a stray key press can’t approve an app. Deny or Escape refuses it.
  • When the app needs Sval and Sval is closed, the app starts Sval in the background.
  • Agent access is a setting of this device. It doesn’t sync.
  • Disconnect removes Sval from the app’s settings. Restart the app afterward.
  • On Linux with GNOME, Sval opens in front of your window when an AI app starts it. The Agents page in Settings shows the command that keeps it behind.

Any app that runs local MCP servers can use Sval.

  1. Open Settings › Agents.
  2. Under Other apps, select Copy JSON.
  3. Paste it into the app’s MCP configuration, then restart the app.

To add Sval by hand, add a server named sval whose command is the file path shown under Other apps. Copy copies that path.

  • This app points to a Sval that isn’t on this computer. The app’s settings name a copy of Sval that’s gone. Select Fix to point the app to the Sval you’re using.
  • This app points to a Sval that has moved. Select Connect to update it.
  • This app has a Sval entry you changed. Sval leaves your entry alone. Select Connect to replace it.
  • Sval can’t read this app’s settings, so it leaves them as they are. Use Copy JSON under Other apps and add Sval by hand.
  • Sval couldn’t change the app’s settings. Use the path or JSON under Other apps.
  • Agent access couldn’t start. The status line under the switch says why. Sval can’t read its list of paired agents, or can’t make its agents folder private.
  • Off. No AI agent can connect to Sval. Agent access is off, so the app can’t reach Sval. Turn on Let AI agents on this computer use Sval.
