Links

Settings › Links decides where links open: links from other apps, links in pages, and the rules that send a site’s links to a Workspace.

  • Open links from other apps in a Peek opens each link from another app in a Peek, a small window that isn’t part of any Workspace. It’s on by default. When it’s off, links from other apps open as a new tab in the frontmost window.
  • Close an idle Peek after closes a Peek you haven’t used for that long: 1 hour, 6 hours, 1 day, 1 week, or Never. It starts at 6 hours. It’s dimmed while Peeks are off.

Both settings sync to your other devices.

  • Peek at a link with Option-click (Alt-click on Windows and Linux) opens the link over the current tab, with its sign-ins. Plain clicks and ⌘-clicks (Ctrl-clicks on Windows and Linux) are unchanged. When it’s off, Option-click works the way the page expects.
  • Open links to other sites from a pin in a Peek opens a link that leaves a pinned site in a Peek.
  • When you open a link or media in a new tab, switch to it immediately shows a new tab as soon as it opens.

Links from other apps that match a rule open in the rule’s Workspace as a new tab. Sval tries the rules in order, and the first one that matches wins. A line under the heading says whether the rules sync.

  • Add rule opens the form for a new rule.
  • Each rule shows its place, what it matches, and the Workspace its links open in.
  • The grip at the start of a rule moves it. Drag it, or focus it and press the Up or Down arrow key.
  • This rule never applies. marks a rule that a rule above it always matches first, and names that rule.
  • No Workspace marks a rule whose Workspace was deleted. Its links open as if the rule weren’t there.
  • The pencil edits the rule, and the × deletes it. Undo puts back a rule you deleted.
  • Match by is Site or Address contains. Site matches the site and its subdomains. Address contains matches any address with the text in it, at least 3 characters with no spaces.
  • The text field takes the site or the text. For Site, you can paste a whole address.
  • Workspace lists your Workspaces, except Agent Workspaces. An isolated Workspace is marked “(isolated)”.
  • A line under the form says what the rule will do, or why it can’t be saved. It warns when a rule above would always match first, or when the new rule would stop a rule below from ever applying.
  • Add adds the rule at the end of the list. When you edit a rule, the button reads Save.
  • Cancel closes the form.
  • Peek, before the address bar, counts the Peeks you have open. With more than one, it opens a list of them, where you can switch to a Peek, close one, or select Close all peeks. Pointing to it says when the Peek closes.
  • The button after the address bar opens the page in the Workspace of the window you used last, as a tab at the end of its list, and closes the Peek. Shift-click opens the Workspace in a new window when no window shows it.
  • The arrow next to it lists your other Workspaces. Open in New Window next to one opens that Workspace in a new window.

In the menu bar, File › New Peek Window opens an empty Peek, signed in as the Workspace you opened it from. Its shortcut is ⌥⌘N (Ctrl+Alt+N on Windows and Linux).
