Address bar site controls
The address bar holds two kinds of controls for the site you’re on. The Privacy and Security button shows what Sval does to protect the site. The site controls at the end of the address bar show what the site may do.
The Privacy and Security button
Section titled “The Privacy and Security button”The button sits next to the site’s address.
- A number on it counts the trackers and ads Sval blocked and the fingerprinters it foiled on the page. Over 99, it reads 99+.
- A dot takes the number’s place when the site had a data breach in the last year.
- Not secure shows on it when the connection isn’t secure, and Dangerous site when Sval blocked the site as harmful.
- Selecting it opens its panel.
The Privacy and Security panel
Section titled “The Privacy and Security panel”- The header names the site and says Protections on or Protections
off for this site. On an address like
nas.example.com, the name is a menu that picks the address alone or All of example.com. - The connection line, such as Connection secure, opens the certificate view. It shows Verified as, Issued by, Valid, and Encryption, then More information, which opens Page Info. HTTPS-Only on this site shows for a site you made an HTTPS-Only exception for. Remove certificate exception shows for a certificate you chose to trust.
- A warning shows first when the connection isn’t secure, when parts of the page aren’t secure, or when Sval didn’t load the page.
- This site had a data breach shows the month, how many accounts, what was exposed, and Have I Been Pwned as the source. Its × dismisses it.
- On this page counts Trackers blocked, Ads blocked, and Fingerprinting foiled. With protections off, Allowed on this page counts Trackers loaded.
- Under This site, both switches reload the tab:
- Protections for this site blocks trackers and ads and resists fingerprinting.
- Fingerprinting protection turns off to let the site read your real device values. It’s off and can’t be changed while Protections is off. Where Mozilla’s compatibility fixes are on and cover the site, it shows off, and turning it on keeps full protection.
- Clear cookies and site data asks first, then clears the site where the tab keeps it and reloads the tab. You’re signed out of the site.
- At the bottom, Manage sites opens Settings › Sites. In a private window, a note says choices made there last until you close the window and never sync.
On Sval’s own pages, local files, and extension pages, the panel says that blocking and site controls don’t apply.
The site controls
Section titled “The site controls”From the start of the row:
- Camera, microphone, and screen sharing buttons show while the page uses them. Selecting the camera or microphone mutes or unmutes it. Selecting screen sharing opens the site settings menu, where Stop ends it.
- The location button shows while the site asks for your location and while it uses it. Lit, selecting it blocks location on the site. Crossed out, selecting it allows location on the site. Either reloads the page.
- The Translate button shows while the page can be translated into your language. While it’s translated, the button shows your language’s code.
- The media button, Video and audio, plays or stops the page’s video and audio for this visit. It lights up when the page tried to play and the site is on Ask first.
- The JavaScript button turns JavaScript on or off for the site and reloads the tab. Its tooltip says whether your rule set it.
- The scissors button starts Snip. The eraser button starts Remove from this site, and shows only once you pin it. Each shows how much it removed on the page.
- The Site settings arrow opens the site settings menu. It also shows the count of an unpinned scissors or eraser.
The site settings menu
Section titled “The site settings menu”The header names the site and says Site settings · changes reload the
tab. On an address like nas.example.com, the name is a menu that picks
the address alone or All of example.com.
- In use now lists the camera, microphone, or screen the page uses, with Mute, Unmute, or Stop.
- Zoom shows the page’s zoom on a slider that moves one step at a time. Reset puts it back.
- Elements offers Remove from this site…, which saves a rule for every visit, and Snip…, which removes something until you reload. A pin next to each puts its button in the address bar. Below them, Removed from this site lists what you removed, with Show again on each, and Manage in Settings.
- Video and audio offers Always allow, Ask first, and Always deny for the site, and names the default for all sites.
- JavaScript has a switch for the site, and a pin for the JavaScript button. The line under it says Sval default or Your rule for this site.
- Permissions always lists Use the camera, Use the microphone, Access your location, Send notifications, and pop-ups, then any other permission the site holds. Each has a menu of answers and an × that clears it. Pop-ups show how many were blocked on the page. A permission changed here reloads the tab when the menu closes.
- At the bottom, Manage sites opens Settings › Sites.
Remove from this site is off in private windows, and so is the JavaScript switch, because each saves a choice.
