Show tabs side by side in a Split
A Split shows up to four tabs side by side in one window. In the panel, a Split is one row with a tile for each tab.
You’re comparing two laptops on two shop pages and want both in view.
Split two tabs you have open
Section titled “Split two tabs you have open”- In the panel, select the first tab.
- Option-click (Alt-click on Windows and Linux) the second tab’s row.
The two tabs show side by side, the one you were viewing on the left.
Split a tab with one you pick
Section titled “Split a tab with one you pick”- In the panel, right-click the tab, then choose Create Split.
- In the new pane, choose the tab to show next to it.
⌃+ (Ctrl+Shift+Plus on Windows and Linux) does the same for the tab you’re viewing. On a US keyboard, ⌃+ is Control+Shift+=.
Open a link in a Split
Section titled “Open a link in a Split”- On the page, right-click the link, then choose Open Link in Split View.
The link opens next to the page you’re on.
Details
Section titled “Details”- A Split holds up to four tabs. Option-clicking another tab while you view a Split adds it as the rightmost pane, while the Split has room. So does ⌃+, which opens a new pane for you to pick its tab.
- You can also drag one tab’s row onto the right end of another’s. The row reads Create Split while you’re over that spot. Over a Split’s row it reads Join Split, or Merge Splits when you drag a Split. A narrow panel has no such spot.
- The new pane lists the tabs of this Workspace that aren’t in a Split.
- Add to Split in a tab’s menu adds it to a Split in this Workspace that has room.
- Drag the divider between two panes to resize them. Sval keeps the sizes after a restart, and they sync to your other devices with the Split.
- Right-click a pane’s tile in the panel for Move Pane Left, Move Pane Right, Rename Split…, Separate, and Close All, which reads Close Both for two tabs. Alt+← and Alt+→ also move the focused pane.
- Separate turns the Split back into ordinary tabs, in its place.
- Closing one tab of two separates the other.
- A Split without a name shows its pages’ titles. Rename Split… gives it a name, and an empty name brings back the titles.
- In a Peek, Open in split shows the page next to the tab it came from.
- Panes sit side by side only. There is no top and bottom or grid layout.
- A tab in a Split can’t be pinned.
