Keyboard shortcuts

Sval has shortcuts of its own for the Launcher, the panel, pins, Splits, and Favorites, and changes some of the shortcuts it shares with Firefox. Each shortcut below is given for macOS first, then for Windows and Linux. You’ll find every shortcut, these and the rest, in Settings › Keyboard shortcuts.

  • Recent tabs switches to the tab you used last in this Workspace. Keep holding ⌃ (Ctrl) and press Tab again to go further back. With Recent tabs turned off, ⌃Tab (Ctrl+Tab) goes to the next tab in the panel.
  • New window opens the window on the next Workspace in your list.
  • Reopen closed tab or window reopens whichever closed last.
  • New Peek Window on Windows: with a keyboard layout that types a character with Ctrl+Alt+N, the key types that character instead.
  • Split the tab splits the tab you’re on, or adds a pane to the Split it’s in. On a Mac, it’s ⌃ with the key that types +. On a US layout, that’s ⌃⇧=.
  • Show history and Show or hide history open the History sidebar.
  • The developer tools’ Inspector opens with ⌥⌘C on macOS, and with Ctrl+Shift+I on Windows and Linux.

A website can’t take over Sval’s own shortcuts, even ones you’ve changed. Websites still get copy, paste, cut, undo, select all, find, and save, because web apps like editors handle those themselves. On a Mac, websites also get ⌃Z, so a terminal in a web page can use it. Menus show the shortcut next to each command that has one, including the menus you open by right-clicking a tab, a page, or a text field.

  • The switch Ctrl+Tab switches to recently used tabs sets the order ⌃Tab (Ctrl+Tab) goes through. It’s on by default, and syncs to your other devices. On a Mac, it reads ⌃Tab.
  • The groups list every shortcut: the Launcher, the Workspaces panel, and Favorites, then Firefox’s own groups in Sval’s words.
  • Change waits for you to press the new shortcut. Press the new key shows in the field. Escape, Tab, or Cancel stops without a change.
  • Clear removes a shortcut, which then reads None.
  • Reset puts back Sval’s default. It shows only for a shortcut you’ve changed.
  • Reset all shortcuts puts back every default, after you confirm.
  • A row with no buttons has a fixed shortcut.
  • Your extensions add these shortcuts. lists the shortcuts your extensions add. Change in the extensions page opens the page where you change them.

Changed shortcuts stay on the device you changed them on.
