Updates
Sval checks for updates and downloads them on its own. The controls below say when an update is ready, and choose how Sval installs them.
The Notices button
Section titled “The Notices button”The Notices button shows in the header, with a dot, while an update needs you. Selecting it opens the update messages.
A new message opens by itself once, in the window you’re using. It stays open until you select the Notices button or one of its buttons.
- Update available, restart. “Get the latest version of Sval. Open tabs and windows will be restored.” Update and restart restarts Sval on the new version. Dismiss closes the message.
- Update available, download. “Download the latest version of Sval.” Download downloads it. Dismiss closes the message.
- Couldn’t update. “Sval couldn’t update automatically.” Download opens the page to download the new version. Dismiss closes the message.
- Unable to update. Your operating system isn’t compatible with the latest version. Learn more opens a page about it.
- Another copy running. “Close the other copy of Sval to finish updating.” Update Anyway updates now, and Not Now waits.
A message may also have a Learn more link to the release notes.
A dismissed message stays as one row until you restart, saying an update is available. Selecting the row does what the message’s main button does. While an update downloads, a row reads Downloading Sval update.
About Sval in Settings
Section titled “About Sval in Settings”Sval updates
Section titled “Sval updates”- The update status shows the version you have, and whether Sval is checking, downloading, or up to date. Check for updates checks now. When an update is ready, the button restarts Sval to finish it.
- Show update history lists the updates Sval has installed.
- Automatically install updates (recommended) downloads and installs updates on their own. It’s the default.
- Check for updates, but choose when to install asks before it downloads an update. Switching to it while an update downloads asks whether to finish that update. Finish Update keeps it, and Discard Update drops it.
- When Sval is not running shows on Windows, under Automatically install updates. It lets Sval update while it’s closed.
Release candidates
Section titled “Release candidates”- Receive release candidate updates updates Sval to each release candidate as well as each regular release. It’s off unless this copy of Sval started as a release candidate. It shows only on a copy of Sval that updates itself.
